The accelerating pace of technological change—especially in artificial intelligence—has confronted Islamic jurisprudence with an expanding array of unprecedented issues, making it imperative to identify the opportunities, challenges, and practical strategies for employing AI in the inference and analysis of Sharīʿa rulings. Focusing on AI’s role as an auxiliary tool, this study examines its capacity to classify, analyse, and expedite core juristic processes. The central research question is: What are the principal opportunities and challenges of leveraging artificial intelligence as a powerful instrument for the growth and development of contemporary Islamic jurisprudence? Adopting a qualitative, descriptive-analytical methodology, data were gathered from library and digital sources, peer-reviewed articles, and structured interviews with experts in jurisprudence and technology, then assessed using qualitative data-analysis techniques. The findings indicate that, while AI cannot replace human ijtihād, it can significantly enhance the inferential process in three key areas: large-scale data processing, pattern analysis, and more systematic utilisation of existing scholarly knowledge. Nevertheless, substantial challenges remain, including ensuring conformity with juristic principles, safeguarding privacy, upholding justice and human dignity, addressing algorithmic opacity, and delineating liability for potential errors. Regarding the validity and authority of AI-generated outputs, the results emphasise that AI must remain an auxiliary tool under the jurist’s supervision; its conclusions require scholarly validation to avert possible deviations. Consequently, responsible exploitation of AI in the advancement of contemporary jurisprudence necessitates the formulation of ethical-juristic frameworks, jurist training, interdisciplinary collaboration, transparent algorithms, and continuous oversight.
